In the case of heavy-duty proof coil chains, they may undergo heat treatment (usually quenching and tempering) to enhance their strength and toughness. Proof coil chains are manufactured through standard production processes and offer a certain load-bearing capacity. The material strength of proof coil chains is insufficient for sling applications. Sling chains typically use alloy steel chains of Grade 70 chains, Grade 80 chains or higher, which offer greater strength and durability. In contrast, Grade 30 (G30) proof coil chains are carbon steel chains, and their strength and durability do not meet the requirements for handling higher loads.
Therefore, proof coil chains should strictly adhere to load limits and should not be used for slings or overhead lifting applications. Using them in such tasks could compromise safety and reduce the lifespan of both the chain and the equipment involved.
